Our taxi driver misunderstood Asiana for Air Asia and took us to terminal 1 before he brought us to terminal 3 which is there Asiana Airlines is located at Singapore Changi Airport. We were still way too early for our flight that even the check-in desk for Asiana Airlines wasn’t setup or listed on any of the check-in directories. After asking one of the Singapore Airlines check-in agents if she knew which check-in aisle Asiana Airlines usually has their check-in counter, my parents and I walked over to aisle 9 and we sat around and waited until the check-in counter was setup and opened around 8PM.
Singapore Changi Terminal 3 Asiana Airlines Business Class Checkin Desk
My parents and I were the first to check-in via the dedicated business class check-in line where the contracted check-in agent checked our bags to ICN and issued us our boarding passes and lounge access pass including directions and instructions for getting the the lounge. After thanking the agent, we headed directly to the exit immigration to access the airside of terminal 3. At Singapore Changi Airport, security screening is handled at the gate and not at a central screening area before accessing the airside area of the airport.
An aloof immigration agent processed my exit immigration before handing back my passport and boarding pass without a single word or eye contact. The immigration agent wasn’t rude or anything like that, but he just made absolutely no attempt at any conversation or interaction other than taking my documents from me and then handing them back. While some Americans might consider this type of behavior rude, it does not personally bother me at all.
Once by parents and I were finished with exit immigration procedure, we headed directly up to the SATS Premier Lounge, which is Asiana Airlines contracted lounge here at Singapore Changi Airport for their business class passengers.
Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 Airside
Since we had a long walk to our new gate, and we still needed to clear security at the gate, we left SATS Premier Lounge about an hour before our boarding time for our Asiana Airlines flight OZ 752 to Seoul Inchon Airport. Inside of terminal 3 there are signs that tell you how long of a walk it would take from ones current location to certain gates. At first I thought the time estimates were a bit of an exaggeration but they turned out to be pretty accurate.
When we arrived at our gate, security screening was in full swing. We had all of our belongings X-rayed including my computer which I was given a slip stating that I had a computer before putting it on the belt and on the other side, the slip was collected from me before I retrieved my MacBook Air. Before being allowed into the post security waiting area, our boarding passes were lifted and the small section returned back to us.
Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 Asiana Airlines Airbus A330
Once we were in the holding area, I tired my best to take pictures of our Airbus A330-300 aircraft which would be operating OZ 752, but because of the window and lighting, I could not get a clear shot. After couple of attempts, I gave up and called it quits since no matter what I tried, the glare could not be helped. At no time before or after our flight on OZ 752 was I able to get a clear picture of our aircraft.
It wasn’t long before boarding for business class passengers was called. Since our boarding passes were already lifted when we entered the secure holding area, the agent at the entrance to the gate, visually checked each boarding pass before letting us through. Couple of passengers who were traveling in economy class tried to board and the gate agent politely told them to wait until economy class boarding was called.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Seats
We boarded through the dedicated business class jet bridge where at the aircraft door, we were greeted by the flight attendant and then directed to the correct aisle where our business class seats were located at. When we found our seats, even at first glance, these business class seats were a vast improvement from the terrible business class seats we had on OZ 741. My dad and I sat in seats 3A, 3C and my mom sat in the center aisle 3D.
Once we were settled in, my mom made a comment that there was a poopish malodor in the cabin which btw neither my dad nor I could smell. One of the flight attendants who was passing by heard this and seemed to be horrified and shocked that my mom smelled such a terrible malodor in the cabin. While I scolded my mom for upsetting the flight attendant for something only she could smell, couple of other passengers in the business class cabin made similar complaints to the flight attendants regarding the malodor that my mom noticed in the cabin. One gentleman even covered his nose due to the smell.
The flight attendants jumped into action going around the cabin with spray bottles of what I am assuming was Korean version of Febreze. The purser on tonights flight even came over to my mom to profusely apologize about the malodor and promised my mom that she would report the smell to the higher ups and also that in the future that they will make sure to not let such things happen again. Again, neither my dad nor I could smell what my mom and few others in the cabin were smelling, but based on all the hoopla that resulted from the smell, I’m quite glad that my nose was immune to whatever the malodor was.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Seats Entertainment Screen
At each business class seat were slippers, headphones, pillows and blankets. The pillows were not sealed in plastic but the blankets were. Legroom was generous and there were plenty of storage spaces including little cubby holes for ones shoes. Our seats were not flat 180 degrees like the business class seats on OZ 201, but they were also not the terrible angle flat seats like the ones on OZ 741. I would describe the full recline of our business class seats as deep cradle / almost flat. I had no problems getting some sleep in these seats after dinner service.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Pre Departure Champagne
In the middle of the boarding process, flight attendants came through the cabin with trays of pre departure drinks. I selected champagne and my dad chose water. Before putting our selected pre departure beverages on our center console, the flight attendant placed a coaster down before placing the glassware on top of it. Once the safety demo and other departure routines were completed, we pushed back from the gate and shortly later the engines came to life. It was difficult to take pictures due to glare from the window so after couple of attempts I gave up and just kicked back during takeoff.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Menu And Wine List
At 10,000feet, the flight attendants jumped into action to prepare the cabin for dinner service. First, hot towels were distributed and then collected. This was followed by menus and wine and beverage list for tonights business class dinner service. Shortly after the the menus were distributed, the flight attendants were back in the aisle taking meal and drink orders from the business class passengers. There were two main course options on the Western menu and bibimbap on the Korean menu. When the flight attendant arrived at our row, I selected the chicken from the Western menu to eat and white wine to drink. Both my parents went with the Korean menu.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Table Cloth
Next came the white tablecloths which the purser went around helping to take out the tray tables for passengers while another flight attendant behind her placed the tablecloths on the open tray tables. After the tablecloths were completed, the meal setup trolleys were brought out into the aisles. Just like on OZ 741 to Bangkok, the Western meal was served from a pre setup tray which contained the appetizer, salad and dressing, and butter. Once my meal tray was placed on my tray table, the flight attendant poured me a glass of white wine that I ordered earlier along with a glass of water. Following close behind was another flight attendant with the breadbasket from which I selected a seeded dinner roll.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Western Meal Appetizer And Salad
My appetizer which contained two types of salmon was good! While one of the salmon was described to be “spicy” on the menu, I thought it was very mild. Since I am a fan of salmon both cooked and smoked, this appetizer gets two thumbs up. The side salad was fresh and tasty with the dressing but it wasn’t anything special. Just your average side salad with dressing. Once I was done with my appetizer, one of the flight attendants cleared away the plate and the cutleries that I used for the appetizer course.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Chicken Western Meal
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Korean Bibimbap
After a little bit of respite from eating, the trolley with the main course were rolled out into the aisles. When the flight attendant arrived at our aisle, she used special holders to place the square ceramic dish containing my chicken main course on my tray. The Korean meal that my parents were having arrived on a tray with side dishes and a bowl of soup. The side dishes were covered with ceramic lids and the flight attendants removed the lids after placing the trays on my parents tray tables.
My chicken dish was ok and much better than the soggy deep fried dish I had on OZ 741. The dish was pipping hot and the rice was not dried out which is a common problem with inflight reheated rice. When one of the flight attendants saw that I was done with my main course, she removed the square dish along with the utensils that I used to eat it.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Cheese Plate
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Western Dessert
The next course that followed was the cheese course. The cheese plate contained three types of cheeses along with dried fruits and walnuts. The flight attendant offered both crackers, brown bread along with carrot and celery sticks with the cheese plate. To wash down the cheese and accompaniments, I had a glass of port wine which was on the same trolley with the cheese plates. Once my mom and I were done sharing my cheese plate, the flight attendant cleared away the meal tray leaving just the white tablecloth on my tray table. Shortly afterwards, my dessert was hand delivered along with a new spoon. While I was enjoying my dessert, the trolley with coffee and tea came to our row and I asked for a cup of coffee to finish off my late night dinner.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Hot Towel After Dinner
Once everything was cleared away, a post dinner hot towel service was completed before lights were dimmed in the cabin for passengers to sleep. Before trying to sleep, I asked one of the flight attendants for eyeshades and earplugs which she brought out a bunch for my parents and other business class passengers who wanted them. For the remainder of the flight, I got a little bit of sleep but was awoken couple of times due to turbulence. These business class seats were quite comfortable for sleeping and I could see myself easily flying long distance in these seats without issue.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Business Class Pre Arrival Beverage
Before arrival into Inchon International Airport, a tray of beverages were brought around for passengers who wanted them. My dad and I both chose water which again the flight attendant placed the glassware on top of coasters on our center console table. After we were done with our drinks, the beverage glasses were collected and the the flight attendants went around doing their pre landing routines before returning to their jump seats for landing.
Asiana Airlines Airbus A330 Runway ICN
We landed into ICN at daybreak and as we turned to exit the runway, I saw that there was a long line of aircraft landing behind us. Without delay, we taxied to our gate and as we deplaned, the purser bowed and thanked each passenger for flying with Asiana Airlines.
