After our seafood lunch, we decided to go for a walk to the beach since it was only little over half a mile away. I turned on Google Maps on my iPhone and followed the direction to Parque del Amor. We walked around the park for a bit and took pictures of the beach from the fence. The weather was overcast and gloomy today but not too cold. The park was ok but nothing I would go out of my way to visit. Parque del Amor is famous for the El Beso Statue but, to be honest neither my parents nor I were very interested in it.

We took the trail down to the beach which was lined with surfing schools, selling lessons. Quite a few people were learning how to surf at the surfing schools and some, like the ones in the picture above, were in the process of learning how to popup from the board and standup. I’ve heard that surfing is popular in Peru, and I know couple diehard surfers who’ve come down to Peru to surf its waves. Personally, I think there are plenty of good surfing locations in California and see no reason to fly out to Peru just to go surfing.

My parents and I hung around the gravel beach, taking photos and breathing in the ocean air before walking backup to town. I saw couple people lying on the gravel enjoying the beach but I just could not imagine it being very comfortable. It was hard enough walking on the gravels and I could feel it in my feet and knees. Maybe I’m biased towards the nice soft sandy beaches of Southern California, but I just did not find the Miraflores area beach to be very inviting.

After climbing the stairs back up into town, we headed to Kennedy Park, which is famous for all the stray cats that call the park home. Again, just like the Parque del Amor, I would not go out of my way to visit this park as well. Visiting the park was mostly to kill time and burn off the lunch we ate earlier in the day. Personally I’m not a cat person and  was definitely not going to be petting a bunch of strays.

While walking around, I saw a Wong Supermarket, so we went there to buy some bottled waters before heading back to our hotel for some downtime.
