Our Uber driver Michael picked us up at the airport and after an “interesting” conversation with him during the drive, we arrived at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown. It was getting close to 4AM local time at this point, and the front door of the hotel was locked and I had to ring the buzzer and who I am assuming is the night auditor to let us in. My dad and I exchanged pleasantries with the night auditor who proceeded to check us in. I booked a Club Level room which he confirmed and issued us our room keys along with the welcome drink coupon for SPG Gold members.
At this point all three of us were completely beat and we wanted nothing more than to jump into bed and sleep. My mom, who never goes to bed without taking a shower and washing off her makeup, just jumped right into bed. This was a first for her and I myself was surprised and asked her WTF? She gave me the silent hand wave meaning, shut up and leave her alone. I slept like a baby and when we all woke up, it was around noon and we missed the breakfast which is included for club room guests, served in the Sheraton Club.
The room itself was clean and bigger than your standard hotel rooms. We did have to move to another room in the morning because the safe in our original room was broken because a previous guest locked the safe and shoved a little piece of toy into the USB port which prevented maintenance from opening and reseting the safe. The move was handled quickly and professionally by the maintenance employee, who went down and brought us keys to the new room and also helped my mom move her suitcase down the hall to the new room. The new room was exactly like the previous room expect that the new one had a view of Sandia Mountains vs a view of Uptown Albuquerque at the previous room.
The Sheraton Club, which is accessible for guests booked in a club room or have SPG Platinum status, has a refrigerator stocked with bottled water and sodas for club floor guests to help themselves to. An expresso machine and a microwave oven is available for use by guests as well. Seating and dining / work area are plentiful in the club. A small one computer business area is available for use by club guests. Entrance to the club is controlled through your room key which you tap on the sensor at the door.
Breakfast is served in the morning in the Sheraton Club for club floor guests and also SPG Platinum level members. The breakfast spread was quite extensive and included, assorted breads and pastries, assorted juices, yogurt, assorted fresh cut fruit and whole fruits. Cold and hot cereal is also available. Along with with the espresso machine which is available all day, freshly brewed coffee is available during breakfast. A hot dish, which changes daily is included in the breakfast buffet. Our first breakfast had scrambled eggs with sausage and bacon and at our last breakfast at the club, eggs scrambled with veggies and breakfast meat was served. Everything is served buffet style and there is an attendant constantly cleaning and replenishing the breakfast buffet items.
In the evenings, a snack service is served in the Sheraton Club. While it is called a snack, it feels like a full meal. The snack items include fresh cut veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, a deli meat and marinated veggie platter, assorted desserts and a rotating hot dish. Our first evening snack served spaghetti with meat sauce and sliders and our second evening snack served fried rice with potstickers. The assorted desserts rotate daily as well. Just as during breakfast, the evening snack is served buffet style and an attendant is available who cleans up and replenishes the buffet items. During the evening snack service, alcohol is served for a fee by the attendant for those who wish to enjoy a drink with their snack. All alcohol orders are charged directly to the room and no cash or credit cards are accepted for payment.
This Sheraton also has a bar in the lobby, where my parents and I exchanged our SPG Gold welcome drink coupon and more dollar bills for three margaritas. We enjoyed our drinks in the seating area of the lobby/bar which can get busy when the hotel has some event going on as there was when we were visiting. I noticed while enjoying my margarita that I was feeling drunker quicker than normal. I figured that the bartender was extra generous with the tequila but it turned out that the higher altitude of Albuquerque will make you inebriated much quicker and for less alcohol than at sea level.
After spending three nights at Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown, I would give this hotel a solid A, when I take into account the room rate paid of $130.53/night including all taxes, the helpful and friendly staff, free parking and the quality and comfort of the room we stayed in. Also, when one considers that the room rate of $130.53, included breakfast in the Sheraton Club, evening snack in the Sheraton Club, and all the bottled water and soft drinks you want in the Sheraton Club drink refrigerator, this hotel is a very good value for your money.
